The seeds of Plymouth Who were sewn in June 2006, just after series two had finished transmitting. After running a sci-fi society in Sunderland, I had wanted to get back into active fandom since moving to Plymouth the previous year, but had never found the time.

I set up the old website on 21st July 2006 and the search began to find other fans in the local area. I placed messages on Doctor Who internet boards, as well as submitting adverts to SFX Magazine, Doctor Who Appreciation Society and E-Bay classifieds. I also contacted the local newspaper and received a callback from a journalist interested in covering the story.

The first article about my attempts to set up a Doctor Who Society in the city was printed in the Plymouth Evening Herald on Thursday 14th September 2006.
